This provides a lower-fat, lower-sodium alternative for recipes that call for Alfredo sauce.<\/p>\n<div class=\"easyrecipe\" data-rating=\"#rating#\">\n<div class=\"item ERName\">Alfredo sauce substitute<\/div>\n<div class=\"ERClear\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ERIngredients\">\n<div class=\"ERIngredientsHeader\">Ingredients<\/div>\n<ul class=\"ingredients\">\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1 clove garlic, minced<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">Optional: 2 tsp olive oil plus 1\/4 cup diced onion<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">3 Tbsp Flour<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1-1\/2 cup skim milk<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1 tsp Italian Seasoning<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1\/8 tsp ground black pepper.<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1\/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ERInstructions\">\n<div class=\"ERInstructionsHeader\">Instructions<\/div>\n<div class=\"instructions\">\n<ol>\n<li class=\"instruction\">In a small bowl, stir vigorously the flour and milk. When the flour and milk is well blended, add the Italian seasoning and pepper. Stir well.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">If you use the optional onion: In a small sauce pan, heat the olive oil to medium high. Optional: saute the onion in the olive oil for 3-4 minutes, until the onion is translucent. Then add the minced garlic and saute for another 30 seconds.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">If you don&#8217;t use the optional onion, add the garlic to the milk mixture.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Add the milk mixture to the saucepan. Cook and stir using medium high heat until the sauce is thickened and just beginning to boil. Then, stir in the Parmesan cheese.
