Beef Calzones
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- ¼ cup onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- ½ tsp low sodium Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp Mrs Dash Steak Grilling Seasoning
- ½ tsp ground cumin
- ½ tsp oregano
- 2 Tbsp no-salt-added tomato paste
- 3 cups low sodium baking mix (see recipe)
- ¾ cup plus 1 Tbsp boiling water
- Optional: 1 egg, lightly beaten
- Optional: 1tsp sesame seed
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- In a medium skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until the beef is thoroughly cooked with no pink. Drain. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, Mrs Dash Steak Grilling seasoning, cumin, oregano, and tomato paste. Cook and stir for another minute or two until the beef and spices are well combined. Remove from heat.
- In small bowl, stir the baking mix and boiling water with fork until dough forms. Divide dough evenly into 8 parts and roll each in a ball.
- On a surface sprinkled with baking mix, roll each dough ball to make a round, rectangle, or oval about ⅛ to ¼ inch thick. Spoon ⅙ of the beef mixture onto one side of each dough round to within ½ inch of edges.
- Fold dough in half, covering filling. Roll over the edges of the dough to seal it (or crimp the dough edges a fork to seal.)
- Place the pie on an ungreased baking sheet.
- Optional: Mix the egg with 2 tbsp of water to make an egg wash. Lightly brush the top of the meat pie with egg, and/or sprinkle with sesame seeds.
