This very low sodium savory Caribbean Barbecue Sauce is great with chicken, fish, or pork. It uses our recipe for no-sodium Worcestershire sauce substitute.
Caribbean Barbecue Sauce
Serves: 16
Ingredients
- 1 (8 oz) can no-salt-added tomato sauce
- ½ cup unsweetened pineapple juice
- ½ tsp lemon juice
- ½ tsp lime juice
- ¼ cup + 1 Tbsp no-salt-added tomato paste
- ¼ cup + 1 Tbsp no-salt Worcestershire substitute (see recipe)
- 1 Tbsp brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1½ tsp chili powder
- ¼ tsp ground ginger
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp ground black pepper
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan.
- Bring mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes.
- Allow the sauce to cool. Then refrigerate until you are ready to use it. (It will also freeze well.)
